    About Me

My name is Malen Cheung. I am from Oregon, and I am a member of the Class of 2028 at Wesleyan University in Middletown Connecticut where I am studying Music and Integrated Design Engineering Arts and Society (IDEAS).

I am a cellist, sound composer, tinkerer, and explorer. I enjoy building ponds and playing with sound. I have a passion for creativity, design, and aquatic ecosystems (and the environment on the whole). I enjoy exploring the possibilities of sound, technology, bioacoustics, and their ability to form connections between people and the natural environment.

Within my creative practice of “deep dives” I dwell in the interdisciplinary immersion of my sonic and environmental interests, and the worlds my work centers around. I am interested in the agency of sound to communicate a method for recording liminal stages in a world of rapid change, and for understanding a place or ecosystem beyond its visual representations.
